SEO or Google Ads Introduction

Okay today, I just want to quickly take you through the difference between search engine optimisation and Google Ads and to help you choose between the two.

What is SEO

So Search Engine Optimisation is the science of optimising your website in Google’s eyes so they get higher Google ranking when somebody is searching for your services or products on Google.

What is Google Ads

Google Ads on the other hand, is sponsored advertising on Google, we’ve all searched on Google and we can see those ads sitting at the very top of the search results page and at the very bottom of the search results page. They are all Google Ads and you’re paying every time somebody clicks on each one of those adverts.

Choosing between SEO and Ads

So choosing between Search Engine Optimisation and Google Ads can be difficult for companies who have never used or worked with these options before, the main thing to consider is how quickly you want your return on investment, and how much you can afford your cost per acquisition or cost per sale to be.

Pros and cons of SEO

With Search Engine Optimisation there’s no instant wins, you can’t get a return on investment in month one of working on Search Engine Optimisation. Instead, you might have to be waiting for 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, 2 years depending on where you are already ranked on Google and how competitive the market is that you are working within.

Pros and cons of Google Ads

Where as with Google Ads we can get your adverts written and live within a couple of weeks of starting to work together.

Online marketing cost per acquisition

So that’s the speed of return on investment, the other thing consider of course, is the cost per acquisition, or cost per sale for your products with Google Ads of course, you’re paying every time somebody clicks on your advert so in the long term you have this constant outpour of investment into the adverts. Where with Search Engine Optimisation it’s completely different. Once you’re ranked you’re, not paying every time somebody clicks on that advert, but it takes longer for you to get there, and that’s the point.

SEO or Google Ads conclusion

So to round up, SEO takes longer for you to get your results, but you’re not paying every time somebody clicks on your listing and with Google Ads you get instant return on investment, instant traffic to your website with instant results but in the long term you will be paying every time somebody clicks on your adverts.
