5 Uncomplicated Ways to Improve Your Conversion Rates

improve your conversion rates

Attracting a lot of web traffic is all well and good. However, you won’t be able to achieve your business goals if you’re unable to convert web traffic into leads or sales. Research showed that a reasonable conversion rate is somewhere between 2% to 3%. This means that for every 100 people visiting your site, you should be able to convince two or three of them to either give you their contact details or purchase a product/service from you.

How to Boost Your Conversion Rates

Indeed, it can be disheartening to see a lot of people visiting your site without taking your desired conversion action. Fortunately, there are ways to improve your conversion rates so you can capture more leads or attract more customers.

1. Get rid of unneeded form fields

Did you know that unnecessary form fields can scare potential customers away? Some people are more than willing to complete an online form. However, they immediately shy away when they see that they need to fill out a lot of required fields. It’s either they think it is very time-consuming or the questions are too prying for their taste.

For this reason, it helps to remove the unneeded form fields in your online forms. This way, your prospects will be more inclined to fill out your forms and give you the information you need. However, make sure to find the right balance between obtaining vital lead information while keeping the number of the required fields low to boost your conversion rates.

2. Add customer reviews and testimonials

Some people are reluctant to buy a product or sign up for a service because they don’t want to be the first one to do it. As such, you should reassure your prospects that they are making the right decision by providing them with testimonials or reviews from your previous clients. Apart from testimonials, you can also add the logos of the companies you have worked with in the past.

Social proof puts your customers’ mind at ease, which helps convince them to give you their contact details or purchase your product/service. At the same time, it helps with your website’s SEO. It allows you to create user-generated content and sends a signal to Google that your website is trustworthy.

3. Eliminate distractions from your site

To make it easier for your prospects to take your desired conversion action, you should remove any distractions from your website. Whether you’re using organic or paid search to attract people to your site, ensure that your landing pages are clear and straightforward. They should be easy to navigate and free from unnecessary elements that would draw your prospects’ attention away.

To keep your audience focused on your offer, add the following elements to your landing pages and nothing else:

  • Headline and subheadings
  • Features/benefits of your offer
  • Customer testimonials and reviews
  • A brief description and picture/video of your offer

4. Always simplify the first step

Psychologists said most of us don’t like to leave things unfinished. We often strive to complete tasks, even if no rewards are waiting for us. Just the thought of being able to finish something is enough to motivate us to complete them. That being said, make sure that the first step in your sales process is uncomplicated and straightforward enough for your target customers. The smoother the first step is, the more likely your prospects will complete the sales process.

For example, let’s say you’re giving away a free ebook to convince your prospects to give you their contact details. Instead of asking them to fill out an entire form, you can ask them to provide you with their email address.  Once your prospects give you their email address, you can send them the rest of the form to obtain additional contact information from them. Even if they don’t fill out the form, you have their email address, at least.

5. Create a compelling call to action

Avoid using generic call-to-actions or CTAs. Otherwise, you are less likely to convince your target customers to purchase your product or sign up for an offer.

Instead of the usual “Sign up” or “Start now” CTA, you can improve your conversion rates by having a call to action that starts with the word “Yes.” For instance, you can write it like this: “Yes! I want my discount voucher!” or “Yes! I want a free trial.” It’s better than the standard CTAs because it paints your offer in a positive light, which has a good psychological impact on your prospects.
